World Baseball Classic

The first World Baseball Classic was in 2006 and won by Team Japan. The Cubs had 4 players from their major league team participate[1]. It will be played again during spring training of 2009 and 7 Cubs were named on rosters [2].

Derrek Lee hurt his shoulder during the tournament, but missed no regular season time.
Future Cub Kosuke Fukudome played for Team Japan. Future minor leaguer Alessandro Maestri played for Team Italy. Former Cubs Matt Stairs and Hee Seop Choi played for Team Canada and Team Korea.
