Traded to Baltimore Orioles for Mike Fontenot, Jerry Hairston Jr., and Dave Crouthers (minors). Crouthers retired before ever pitching for Cubs and Cubs were to receive compensation which was apparently taken care of as part of the trade for Corey Patterson the following offseason.
Leaked that he tested positive for performance enhancing drugs in spring of 2003, although substance is unknown and tests were suppose to be anonymous.
