Heading into the 2009 season, the Cubs lead the franchise matchup 337 to 336, the second closest matchup of any two franchises with at least 400 games played against each other.[1] The teams were heated rivals before the National League went to three divisions in 1994 and the Cubs moved to the National League Central separating the two teams. Much of the rivalrystemming from the 1969 season when the Cubs coughed up a nine game lead in August, only to blow it and watch the Mets end up taking the division and then the World Series.
