The Minnesota Twins began play in Minnesota in 1961 when the original Washington Senators moved after the 1960 season. They've faced the Cubs six times in interleague play from 1997-2001 and then in 2006 and 2009.

November 13: Traded a player to be named later for OF Craig Monroe contingent on Monroe making the Twins Opening Day Roster. On April 13th, 2008, the Twins sent OF/IF Doug Deeds(minors) to complete the deal.

August 31st: Traded a player to be named later for INF/OF Phil Nevin and cash. On September 5th, 2006 the Twins sent RHP Adam Harben to the Cubs to complete the deal.

July 31: A four-team trade involving the Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox. Chicago Cubs received INF Nomar Garciaparra and OF Matt Murton from Boston Red Sox. Minnesota Twins received LHP Justin Jones from Chicago Cubs. Montreal Expos received RHP Francis Beltran, INF Alex Gonzalez and INF Brendan Harris from Chicago Cubs. Boston Red Sox received 1B Doug Mientkiewicz from Minnesota Twins and SS Orlando Cabrera from Montreal Expos.

In August of 2009, the Twins were awarded a waiver claim on RHP Rich Harden, but the two teams could not come to an agreement on the deal.

Before the 2008 season, the Cubs had some interest in Johan Santana but it was expressed that he wanted to go to a team that had spring training in Florida. Johan denies ever making this demand.
