In 1957, the baseball glove manufacturer Rawlings created the Gold Glove Award to honor the best defensive player at each position in the major leagues. In 1958 the award was changed and honored to the best defensive player at each position in each league. The winners are decided by a vote of all Major League managers and coaches, who are not allowed to vote for players on their own team. In total, 14 Cubs have won the award a total of 38 times. Ryne Sandberg currently holds the record for most Gold Glove Awards by a National League second baseman with nine (Roberto Alomar won 10 in the AL). Greg Maddux currently holds the record for most Gold Glove Awards won by any single player with 18, six of which were won as a Cub. In addition, Maddux was named the pitcher on the All-Time Gold Glove Team announced by Rawlings in 2007. A full listing of all Cubs who have won the award in reverse chronological order is provided below.
