The Florida Marlins were an expansion team that began play in the National League in 1993. They've won two World Series in their history including beating the Cubs in the 2003 National League Championship Series, thanks in part to the infamous Bartman ball.

[edit] Rumored Deals Involving Chicago Cubs

[edit] 2008

The Cubs were rumored to be interested in outfielder Jeremy Hermida in their quest for a left-handed bat to play right field. There was also talk they might be interested in Scott Olsen before he was traded to the Washington Nationals.

[edit] 2007

On June 26th, Jacque Jones was nearly traded to the Florida Marlins as reported by Miami papers the Sun-Sentinel, Palm Beach Post and ESPN. The Cubs were potentially going to receive a Class-A pitcher, possibly Graham Taylor, and were going to pay as much as $6.1M of the $7.1M remaining on Jones's contract at one point. The deal was canceled for reasons unknown although speculation ranged from Jim Hendry saying he didn't feel the deal made sense[1] to the new Cubs owner vetoing the deal[2] to Major League Baseball not willing to approve that much cash going in the deal.
