Caridad signed with the Japanese leagues when he was 16 and got a brief two game call-up with the Hiroshima Carp in 2007. The following offseason he was asked to pitch in front of general manager Jim Hendry on the advice of a friend of scout Jose Serra and Oneri Fleita. He impressed Hendry enough and signed with Cubs at age 23 on December 9, 2007.[1]
Was named to Arizona Fall League after 2008 season.
He fluctuated between the bullpen and starting rotation in the minors.
His nickname is "Smiley".
