The Rolaids Relief Man of the Year Award has been awarded to the top reliever in each league since 1976. It is awarded based on statistical performance: a reliever earns two points for a win and three points for a save, and loses two points for a loss. Beginning in 1987, a reliever also loses two points for a blown save. In 2000, Rolaids began awarding four points for "tough save" when he earns a save after entering the game with the tying run on base. The reliever with the highest score at the conclusion of the season is given the award. Two Cubs have won the award for the National League, as shown below.
