Cubs Arizona Fall League Rosters

The Arizona Fall League or AFL is a winter league played during October and November. The Cubs players that go to the AFL usually play for the Mesa Solar Sox with only a few exceptions.

Jeff Beliveau was a member of the Taxi Squad, members are only activated for Wednesday and Saturday games. Brett Jackson was originally named to the team, but replaced by Josh Vitters as Jackson had a prior commitment. RHP Marcus Hatley seemed to have been put on the roster as well without an announcement.

Steve Clevenger was originally a member of the Taxi Squad, members are only activated for Wednesday and Saturday games. He was promoted when Brewers catcher Lou Palmisano was returned to the Peoria Javelinas. Justin Berg was originally named to the AFL Roster [2], but was replaced by pitcher Jesse Estrada. Berg pitched in the Venezuelan Winter Leagues instead. Ryne Sandberg was the Mesa Solar Sox hitting coach.

Tyler Colvin left the AFL at the end of October with elbow troubles that eventually led to Tommy John Surgery.

Steve Clevenger was added as a replacement for Houston Astros catcher J.R. Towles once the season began.


Grant Johnson was originally slated to go but was held out due to shoulder issues. He was replaced by Sean Gallagher. Sam Fuld ended up winning the MVP for the 2007 AFL season as well as the Dernell Stenson Sportsmanship Award. Justin Sharpe was the trainer for the Mesa Solar Sox.
