The Cubs 2005 draft featured 25 pitchers(18 right-handed, 7 left-handed), 9 infielders (4 shortstops, 3 third basemen, 2 first basemen), 9 outfielders, and 8 catchers. They drafted 33 players out of college, 7 out of junior and community colleges and another 11 out of high school. It was scouting director John Stockstill's last draft for the Cubs.
The Cubs received an extra pick in the third round when the Boston Red Sox signed Type B free agent Matt Clement per the Free Agent Compensation system.
